Nougat Brains and Fangs

I ran across this Sweet Honey Nougat recipe and wanted to give it a whirl.  It's more of a faux nougat recipe than an actual nougat.  Fun to try, but I won't be making this recipe again.  It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either.  It was one of those treats you keep trying little bites of because you can't decide if you actually like it or not.....which explains the massive sugar rush I had going.  ;)  The candy likes to spread out a bit too, especially at room temp.  It's sneaky I tell you!

It might be interesting as a middle layer to some brownies or something with some rich flavors.  I suspect it would be on the messy side though.  I might have to try that out someday just to see if combining it with something else makes it pop.

Meanwhile I got to use my brain and fang silicone molds....which I found on Amazon.  Braaaaaainzzz!

Sweet Honey Nougat

1 cup sugar
1/2 cup raw honey
1/3 cup corn syrup
1/4 cup water
1 jar (7oz) marshmallow cream
1 1/2 tbls shortening
1/3 cup powdered sugar

Combine the sugar, honey, corn syrup, and water in a saucepan.  Over medium heat, stir until sugar dissolves, and then let cook until the temp reaches 270.  Remove from heat and cool 10 minutes.  Add in marshmallow cream and shortening and stir until well mixed.  Stir in powdered sugar.  Pour into greased 8 inch pan or molds and let set.
