Spicy Olive Oil

Sometimes I list hot or spicy olive oil in my recipes.....this is what I'm talking about.  It's a quick do it yourself project.  ;)

I like to use a small bottle of olive oil, but you can use any type of bottled oil.  Pour out a tablespoon of oil to make room and add dried spices....do not use fresh herbs or spices....only dried.

My favorite mix is something like 10 peppercorns, 3/4 tsp of red pepper flakes, 1/2 tsp of Mrs. Dash Southwest Chipotle Seasoning, and 1/4 tsp Mrs Dash Garlic & Herb Seasoning.  Experiment away with your own mix.  Give the bottle a good shake.  Let is sit for about a week before using....shake at least once a day if you feel energetic.  This isn't a big effort process.  ;)

When your bottle starts to get low start a new one.  I refill my first bottle with oil at least once or twice before chucking it out in total.  If you have two bottles going you are never without the beloved spicy oil.  ;)  If you prefer you can start a new bottle every time and not bother with refilling.

  15. we use olive oil (extra virgin) in our cooking all the time. i didn't know that there was a spicy olive oil. How spicy is it .. well see we add spices anyway after the oil (fry spices and onions together) so we get our mix of spices in there.

  24. Fantastic idea! I love these DIY food projects too. I just want to mention that these homemade oils should be refrigerated to avoid the potential of very serious poisoning from Botulism. The store-bought flavored oils can usually be left out because they're treated to prevent bacterial growth, but one needs to be more careful with homemade.

  25. Awesome. I've used a similar spicy oil to marinate olives. They make a nice spicy app. I'm going to have to try your combo. Looks yummy!

  32. I should really try it, I use only olive oil and I believe it's always best to improve things at home than buy things stuffed with some unnecessary unhealthy ingredients and preservatives
