Nutella Peanut Butter Banana Bars

I have been meaning to try out this recipe I found on The Spiffy Cookie for ages...it was worth the wait.  Easy to make and just plain tasty.  I will definitely be making this treat again.  Who can resist the glory of Nutella?

I tweaked the recipe a bit because I had extra bananas on hand and no hazelnuts....not that I usually need an excuse for tinkering...ehehehe.

Nutella Peanut Butter Banana Bars

1/2 cup butter, melted
1 cup brown sugar
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla
1/4 tsp salt
1 1/4 cup unbleached all purpose flour
1 cup bananas, mashed
1/2 cup creamy natural peanut butter
1/2 cup lightly salted peanuts
1/4 cup Nutella

Mix melted butter with brown sugar until smooth. Beat in egg and vanilla.  Add salt and flour. Mix in bananas, peanut butter, and peanuts. Pour into greased 8 inch pan.  Melt the Nutella briefly in the microwave and drop by spoonfuls over the batter, and swirl in with a knife.  Bake for 20-25 minutes.  Cool before slicing.

My swirl could have looked a little better...I think I was distracted by the bowl of dreamy Nutella in my hand.  That's my story and I'm sticking to it.  ;)

  8. I am OK with the "no hazelnuts" thing. I like nutella, but that seems to be the only time I enjoy hazelnut flavoring

  18. With this warm weather, I have an abundance of very overripe bananas in my fridge right now. They're waiting to be used in a bread or dessert of sorts. I've found a good use for them now! Looking fwd to trying out these tasty bars. ;)

  31. Really. There should be a law against sweet goodies like these. Once you've seen them, you will be driven to distraction until you eat them. I see no reason why they can't be eaten as a breakfast, lunch or dinner meal! Mmmm!

  34. I made a banana cake w/ chocolate frosting yesterday for my dad's birthday. My, mom thought I was crazy, chocolate doesn't go with banana's she said. I disagreed and said "it's almost as good as PB and banana" She looked at me like I was from another planet. I think she's been visiting my planet so long she's forgotten SHE is the one from the other planet....this post is proof!
