Spiced Apple Butter

Cherry Tea Cakes post this amazing recipe.  Seriously....aaaaahhhhmaaaaazingly good.  I will be making this again and again in the future.

I made just a tiny batch for immediate use.  As much as I love apple butter I don't go through it very quickly.  ;)

Spiced Apple Butter

2 apples, peeled, cored, and diced
3 tbls apple cider vinegar
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 tsp Chinese five spice

In a small sacuepan, cook apples and cider over a low heat until soft.  Toss mixture into food processor until smooth.  Return to saucepan and add remaining ingredients.  Cook over low heat, until thick and bubbly.  Remove from heat and allow to cool before chilling.

  1. I love that you could spread this over a lot of different things, and with the apple favor it would likely be amazing. Great find!

  4. Yum! My mom and her sisters used to make this and there is nothing like it on top of a piece of freshly made warm bread. They did not use the Chinese 5 spice but I just happen to have some of it!

  9. Briarrose....there's something about the start of fall that makes 'butters' so tasty! I love apple butter, but I don't go through it quickly either. I also love pear and pumpkin butter! This does look yummy! : )

  11. The spicing in this apple butter is positively yummy. SO often apple butter is kind of bland; this preparation takes care of that problem. Thanks for sharing it.

  13. I love the fact that you made just a small amount. There's not much worse than using up a bunch of fruit, only to find that the finished result isn't what you hoped for.

Looking at that beautiful color though, I'd say the spicing in the apple butter is perfect.
